About Festival

This is the 10th edition of the International Mime Art Festival at the Na Woli Theatre, thus far the largest selection of international shows. This year, the Festival will feature performances and short theatrical forms by artists from Puerto Rico, Spain, Germany, Russia, Italy, USA, Czech Republic and Poland. We are also going to hold a ten-day open workshop on mime theatre. We will present to you the first part of the "Warsaw Pantomime" exhibition; we will also invite you to meetings and conversations with artists. read more

 

History

When in 2000 Bogdan Augustyniak following the inspiration of Stefan Niedzialkowski preparing to organize it's first edition, it was quite clear for us, that we were undertaking a risky enterprise. Not only from the point of view of the organization, but first of all because, we were not at all certain whether this very beautiful and noble art would find receivers outside the narrow circle of it's initiated admirers. Because it is a difficult and exclusive, hermetic art which demands great concentration not only from it's artists, but also from the public. For all that it proved, that in our hasty and noisy times there are more than a few people, who are seeking such an oasis of silence and concentration. And that each year their number is growing - in our audience as well as throughout the world, people who these days discovers this ancient art again, proclaiming it what we use to call "high culture".

And within it for a sophisticated art dismissing all ostentation of means. An art which not only wants but is able to express the trouble and loss of the contemporary man without any need of appealing either to brutality or coarseness. This is not - and surely can not be - a universal choice and therefore it seems convenient to thank here our audience and authorities of our capital, who decided to support this Festival. Objects.

From 2003 Artistic Director of the Festiwal is Bartlomiej Ostapczuk mime-actor, choreographer, script writer and director of the mime performances, originator and founder of the Mimo Theatre.
